FED: Costello's silence on interest rates a back-flip: Swan

Labor says Treasurer PETER COSTELLO's reluctance to discuss interest rates ahead of
another possible rise tomorrow .. contrasts with his keenness to commit to keeping rates
low before the last federal election.

If the Reserve Bank does lift rates tomorrow .. it'll be the fifth increase since the
2004 election.

Shadow treasurer WAYNE SWAN's told the Nine Network .. Mr COSTELLO's failure to invest
in education .. skills .. and infrastructure .. is putting upward pressure on inflation
.. and backing the central bank into a corner.
