Fed: Diamond's Athens hopes fade with court delay

Dual Olympic gold medal-winning shooter MICHAEL DIAMOND's chances of being picked to
compete in the Athens games next year appear doomed.

The Sydney and Atlanta trap shooting champion will not get his firearms licence back
in time for the Olympic selection trials in Sydney next month after assault charges against
him were yesterday adjourned until next year.

Australian Shooting Association executive director NICK SULLIVAN has told ABC radio
DIAMOND must hold a licence and attend the trials in order to qualify for selection.

The court adjournment came yesterday after a mystery development in the hearing at
the Queanbeyan Local Court.

DIAMOND is charged with assault causing actual bodily harm against his former girlfriend
and failing to secure a firearm properly.
